Episode One, "We Were Military Wives" tells the story of American women who orchestrated a national public awareness campaign in support of their husbands listed as prisoner of war or missing in action during the Vietnam War (1965-1973). As their efforts turned POWs and MIAs into major war issues, the family movement became entangled in the complex political divisions of the Vietnam War. But when peace finally came, many wives and families whose loved ones did not return felt their faith in government promises to bring their men home had been misplaced.
